The Beauty of Your Cellulite
As we get older there’s a word that seems to haunt us all, the dreaded C word… cellulite.
We all have cellulite yet we’re so scared to talk about it and embarrassed to show it. We’ve all tried to hide it, searched for miracle treatments online whilst scrolling through flawless photos of women wondering why our bodies don’t look the same. The truth is that no one looks the same and no one has flawless mark-free skin.
We all have cellulite and it shouldn’t be something we are embarrassed about.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is the name for dimpled/ lumpy skin that is found on our bums, tums, thighs, and arms. Cellulite forms when the fat cells beneath your skin increase and push up against your connective tissue. Our body stores that fat in case we need it later, which for women can include during pregnancy. It’s amazing that our bodies can do this. Cellulite is harmless and extremely common, yet we can tear ourselves apart over something that is part of our natural cycle. It's important to remind ourselves that over 90% of women develop cellulite at some point in life so it's not as rare as we all believe. Another cellulite myth is that it is only women of a particular size or age that have cellulite. WRONG. Tall, short, curvy, or slim, size doesn’t matter. We all have cellulite. Working out is amazing for your mind and body, but it isn’t actually a permanent cure for cellulite. We can all work out and eat the same way but our bodies and our cellulite will still appear differently on all of us. And that’s okay.
There are so many other determining factors that can cause cellulite, including hormones, age, eating habits, and genetics. So it doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like because at some point you will have to live with cellulite. Don’t let social media fool you into thinking that cellulite isn’t real for all of us.
Even if you can’t fully love your cellulite, then accept it. Accept what your body can do and find comfort in the fact that you definitely aren’t the only human out there with cellulite. Finding some sort of acceptance is better than constantly hating yourself. Acceptance will change everything. It takes a lot of time but acknowledge that your cellulite is common and perfectly normal, that you don’t need to hate your body for it. If you’re constantly putting yourself down, then you’re going to feel down and you don’t deserve that.
As much as we preach self-love, cellulite is one part of our body that we find hard to love. We should find a way to accept every part of our body and that includes cellulite, because yes, it's all beautiful!
This is something that we will all have at some point in our lives and, regardless of what other people think, it doesn’t make you any less attractive, funny, smart, kind, or lovable. It says nothing other than you are human and your body is working the way it is supposed to.
Who cares what others think? You’re too busy living life to care.
