How to be THAT Student: Elle Woods Edition
It’s the start of a new academic term and whether you are going back to school or starting university, we all want to show up as our best selves and achieve success.
When it comes to university, Elle Woods is for sure THAT GIRL. From love and fashion to always showing up to class with the cutest stationery, and becoming the smartest woman in the room, she is an icon who proves anything is possible. For all girls who want to embrace their inner Elle Woods, and have an educated, organised, and successful year, here are our tips for becoming THAT Girl on campus!
"I don’t need backups. I’m going to Harvard." - Elle Woods
Believe in Yourself
Throughout the movie, everyone underestimates and misjudges Elle but she never lets that get in the way of success. Elle proves that hard work and self-belief can take you right to the top! So no matter how hard things get or how many people try to put you down, keep going, and never let anyone dim your shine.
"You must always have faith in people. And, most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself."
- Elle Woods
Keep Yourself Educated
Elle can always be seen with a notebook and is ready to learn no matter the time or location (even at the salon). Reading books, listening to informative podcasts, or watching documentaries is an easier way to take in information. Find what form of learning works for you and implement it into your daily routine. You can listen to a podcast on your daily walk or at the gym, read a book to class, and watch a documentary when you have a night in. To remain at the top of the class and confident in your studies, stay curious, focused, and educated on your chosen subject.
Practice Self-discipline
You must create a routine outlining tasks, deadlines, and habits and stick to it. Practice time management and time blocking so that you can focus on one task at a time and take regular breaks. Set boundaries and hold yourself accountable so that you can stay on track and create a routine that helps you work to your full potential.
Stay Organised
A cluttered space adds to a cluttered mind, so keep your workspace tidy and organised. Use tools such as Google Calendar, a journal, a planner, or to-do lists apps to help schedule and prioritise tasks.
Minimise Distractions
Identify distractions around you and remove them. Phone on silent, turn social media notifications off, and work in an environment that gets you in the working mindset. Find a library or a cute café, set up your desk to help you focus on studying, and play music that will help you relax and stay focused. Create a space for success and you will achieve it.
Romanticise Student Life
After a while student life can become exhausting rather than fun and exciting. But, if you take time to romanticise student life, things can start to feel a little easier. Find ways to enjoy the journey to class, stop for a coffee before a lecture, pack fun stationery, and put together an outfit that makes you feel cute and confident on days when you don’t feel your best (maybe a cute all-pink moment inspired by Elle). Most importantly, remind yourself that you are doing this work for you. You are working on yourself, working hard for your future self, and giving yourself the life that you deserve.
Make Time for You
Student life can become extremely stressful, and you can often feel burnt out, so it’s important to find time for yourself.
"Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy!"-Elle Woods
Allocate time to spend on non-academic things, like a hobby you enjoy, working out, spending time with loved ones, or spending time alone to rest. Rest is so important, so remember to be kind to yourself and put your mental well-being first by allocating time to yourself.
