Getting Back on Track with a Mid Year Refresh
As we enjoy the summer sun and enter the middle of the year, many of us may feel in need of a fresh. Fresh space, good vibes, and new goals. The middle of the year is the perfect time to reflect on how far we have come this year and where we want to go for the rest of the year.
It's important to take time for self-reflection. You can learn so much about yourself and areas of your life that you want to improve on, but you can also look back at how well you’ve done over the past few months and praise yourself for what you have achieved and overcome. When taking time to reflect, it’s good to have a balance of positive self-reflection and gratitude as well as goal-focused and self-improvement reflection.
You’ve probably achieved more than you realised or even given yourself credit for, so you should recognise that and be proud of yourself. Looking for these successes or positive moments will give you the motivation you need to keep going for the rest of the year.
As the year goes on, we can get swept up in the rush of everything. Life is unpredictable, so anything can happen that ends up changing your path, plan, and routines. Reflect on all those changes and challenges, reflect on what you have learned so far, and think about how you can adjust your goals and habits to meet where you are at this point in your life. What worked 6 months ago might not work now, so if things didn’t go to plan or you fell off, then that’s okay. Just don’t give up! Make new goals and establish habits that reflect where you are in your life now. But remember not to be hard on yourself if you aren’t where you want to be, or if you haven't been as dedicated as you wanted to be to certain goals or habits, and gave up along the way. This mid-year reset will help you adjust and refocus so that you can get back on track to achieve greatness (however that looks to you) in the second half of the year.
Remember that goals are different for us all. Your refresh can focus on anything big or small. It could be anything from, starting a new hobby, getting back to the gym, working towards a new job, creating a weekly schedule to manage your time better, creating a new night routine, or simply checking off a stressful list of tasks that you’ve been putting off.
A fresh space can also create a clearer state of mind. So, clean out or reorganise your space, donate unwanted clothes/ items, and include more self-care days in your weekly routine, even if it’s just cooking a delicious meal, getting your hair and nails done, or committing to a skincare routine. All these little habits are important in helping to keep on track and motivated because when you feel good you’re able to focus your energy on working hard and making good things happen for yourself.
Sticking to your daily or weekly habits is a way to prove to yourself that you can stick to the goals and promises that you make yourself, fuelling you with motivation to keep going.
You can do this mid-year reset by writing all your thoughts, plans, and feelings in a journal, creating a visual mood board, or a simple list on your phone. Whatever works for you. Once you create something you can refer to throughout the year, you can start to make things happen and keep a reminder of what you want to achieve.
It’s time to look back at the first half of the year so that we can thrive in the second.
You can do it!
